One of my little guys was sick recently (104 degree fever!) and was feeling so miserable. He just wanted to lay down all afternoon and nap next to me. I’m not a great napper, so I decided to use the quiet time as an opportunity to crochet a crown. I figured I would get to make something (which I love) and it might make him feel a little better when he woke up. (What kid wouldn’t feel at least a little bit better wearing a crown made by mom?!)
Rather than try to find a pattern, I decided to just create my own.
The yarn I used was Caron One Pound yarn in Sunflower.
Here’s the pattern to make a kids’ size crown (it fits my 4 year old, but could stretch to fit a larger head). You can adjust the size by adding or subtracting multiples of 8.
Materials:
– Size H crochet hook
– Medium weight yarn
Pattern:
– Row 1: Chain 64, join with slip stitch to the first chain. Do not turn.
– Row 2: Chain 1, SC in each chain around. Join with slip stitch in first chain 1 (chain 1 counts as first SC. Do not turn. (64 SC)
– Row 3: Chain 2, DC in each SC. Join with slip stitch in top of chain 2 (counts as first DC). Do not turn. (64 DC)
– Row 4: Chain 1, SC in each DC. Join with slip stitch in first chain 1. Do not turn. (64 SC)
– Row 5: Repeat row 3.
– Row 6: Repeat row 4.
– Row 7: Chain 3. Skip 3 DC, (3 DC, chain 2, 4 DC) in next DC, *skip 3 DC, SC in next DC, skip 3 DC, (4 DC, chain 2, 4 DC) in next DC, repeat from * around. Join with slip stitch in first chain 1. Do not turn.
– Row 8: Chain 1, sc in each of next 3 DC, (SC, DC, SC) in chain 2-space, *SC in next 4 DC, skip SC, SC in next 4 DC, (SC, DC, SC) in chain 2-space, repeat from * around. Join with slip stitch in first chain 1.
Weave in ends and enjoy your new crochet crown!
